What is LIFE +
The LIFE + program is a EU funding instrument to support european environmental policy.
The main goal is to provide specific support to measures and projects with European added value for the implementation, updating and development of policy and legislation on the environment, in particular for the realization of the EU Sixth Environment Action Programme.
Every year the EU Commission shall publish a call for proposals taking into account the multi-year strategic program and any priorities that are sent by EU members
The Commission determines which projects, from those received, may obtain financial support from the LIFE + programme and regularly it publishes a list of these projects.
The beneficiaries can be public and private bodies, Actors or Institution.
There are three thematic components:
Nature and biodiversity
Within this category are funded projects which aim is to protect, conserve, restore, monitor and facilitate the functioning of natural systems, natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora, in order to halt the loss of biodiversity. Within the component "Nature and Biodiversity" there are two distinct categories of projects: projects LIFE + Nature and LIFE + Biodiversity projects.
Information and Communication,
Within this component are funded initiatives that contribute to disseminate information and raise awareness of environmental issues.
Environmental Policy and Governance,
with this component EU supports innovative projects or demonstration projects for the implementation, updating and development of policy and legislation on the environment, including the integration of environmental topics into other policies.
