The project strategy in a nutshell

From an innovative model experimentation in the Po basin area to its replication in Western Macedonia, Greece

One of the first and most important steps of the Lifeel project was taken with the endorsement by the Italian partnership of an innnovative management protocol with the aim of restoring the Anguilla anguilla stock in the Po river area.

Starting from the Comacchio lagoon experience, Lifeel will transpose this conservative approach to the conservation of the European eel population through site-specific actions and knowledge transfer activities in the Nesto River Basin in Greece.

Among the project pillars:

  • Species-specific actions for the rivers’ defragmentation
  • Protection of potential breeders
  • Experimental protocol for breeder individuals in captivity
  • Dissemination, awareness raising, involvement and training
