Shaping fair cities

Emilia-Romagna Region wins with Shaping Fair Cities the sustainable PA Award

At the PA Forum recognition for the European project Shaping fair cities, towards Agenda 203

Shaping Fair Cities is among the 100 projects awarded with the "Sustainable PA Award - II Edition. 100 projects to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda", dedicated this year to Antonella Giulia Pizzaleo, Head of the Regional Digital Agenda and Internet Governance for Lazio Region, who passed away on the 7th January of this year.

Emilia-Romagna Region receives this recognition as leader of the project, which sees the participation of a complex network of local authorities - 16 partners - with the aim of integrating the 2030 Agenda in local policies, through capacity building actions, advocacy, implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), monitoring and awareness campaigns.

The priority objectives are the SDGs n° 5 - Gender equality, n° 11 - Sustainable cities and communities, n° 13 - Fight against climate change, n° 16 - Peace, justice, solid institutions, together with the phenomenon of migration. It is expected that by 2020, with the support of the University of Bologna, 14 local authorities - in particular 4 regional governments of the European Union (Italy, Spain, Romania and Poland), 8 EU municipalities (Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Greece and Croatia) and 2 non EU partners (Albania and Mozambique) - for a total urban population of 3,697,600 people, will adopt an action plan for implementation, communication and monitoring of SDGs at local level, with particular attention to the identified objectives.

The funding comes from the European Commission through the Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) program, with the aim of promoting development education and raising public awareness of development and cooperation policies; support local and regional governments and their associations in implementing and monitoring the Agenda 2030 SDGs; to motivate the active participation of citizens in local and global actions in support of the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

Thanks to the transnational network of partners, the action project involves different types of stakeholders: local decision makers, public officials, the academic world, NGOs and citizens. It also intends to mobilize local authorities to implement new objectives that address migration challenges and related local policies with a gender approach, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
