Shaping Fair Cities International Summer School by UNIBO

The international Summer School about migration and the 2030 Agenda, organized by UNIBO in collaboration with Punto Europa Forlì within Shaping Fair Cities, 31st May - 4th June 2021

The University of Bologna – Alma Mater Studiorum in collaboration with Punto Europa Forlì is organizing an International Summer School on migration and the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development in the framework of the EU-funded project Shaping Fair Cities: Integrating the 2030 Agenda within local policies in times of great migration and refugee flows. It will be held from 31st May to 4th June 2021 in Bertinoro (Forlì, Italy) in compliance with current national health security provisions. On-site presence is therefore warmly and highly preferable. For the participants who cannot travel to Bertinoro owing to well-founded reasons, all lectures will be also accessible online.

The lectures aim to deepen the connections between the 2030 Agenda, selected SDGs, and migration. The 5-day International Summer School revolves around: SDG 13 (climate change), SDG 11 (sustainable cities), SDG 16 (peaceful and inclusive societies); SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 17 (cooperation and partnership), migration, local and global actions to sustainable development. Lectures will run from 9 am to 3 pm, including coffee and lunch breaks. Interactive workshops and visits are also being planned for on-site participants.

The lectures on SDG 5 will deal with the connection between gender studies and, respectively, migration, climate change, discrimination against LGBTIQ+ international protection seekers, and the impact of COVID-19.

The lectures on SDG 13 will focus on the phenomenon of climate change as well as on multilevel actions towards climate resilience. Specific attention will be devoted to the nexus between climate change and migration.

The lectures on SDGs 16 and 17 will respectively examine integration and exclusion policies towards migrant communities and the principle of non-discrimination, the challenges posed by trafficking in human beings and official development assistance in a globalized world.

The lectures on SDG 11 aim to shed light on disaster risk management and prevention, the impact of COVID-19 on the achievement of sustainable cities, the role of urbanization in fostering migrant inclusion and climate change adaptation and of culture heritage for regional economic resilience.

All participants will be provided with food and accommodation in Bertinoro and will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the International Summer School.

The official language of the International Summer School is English.
