ARPA Emilia-Romagna

Arpa logoARPA Emilia-Romagna is the regional agency for environmental protection, and the technical institute for the Region of Emilia-Romagna. It is responsible for the soil, water and air matrices, environmental control, monitoring of the environmental components, monitoring of human activities and their impact, and management of the regional environmental information system.

The Hydro-Meteo-Climate Service of ARPA Emilia-Romagna (ARPA SIMC) carries out operational activities, research and development in meteorology, climatology, agrometeorology, radarmeteorology, environmental meteorology, remote sensing and hydrology. ARPA SIMC is also involved in the numerical model forecasting and probabilistic forecasting system for meteo-hydrological risks; the nowcasting system for very short-range forecasts for extreme weather events, and integrated systems based on both GIS and models in support of regional policies.

ARPA SIMC is active in research on climate change at the national and international levels.

ARPA SIMC participates in the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), other international organizations and the EU programs in the field of climate change, its effects, its mitigation and adaptation.

ARPA SIMC is currently a partner in several EU projects in the field of climate change on a regional scale related to water management and water conservation, agriculture, the transport system, the coastal environment and urban areas. Some examples are the EU Interreg IVC projects, Water Core,

UHI and Enercitee-Clipart, projects in the Seventh Framework Programme, Weather and Vintage, the LIFE+ project, and Opera.

ARPA Emilia-Romagna is a participant of Climate ChangE-R, in charge of data collection, assessment and management. It is the reference to evaluate nitrous oxide emissions. It also participates in the evaluation of all the results of the project and the identification of best practices for the mitigation of GHG emissions.
