LIFE RINASCE

Training sessions

Events dedicated to the analysis, design and monitoring of the integrated restoration of drainage canals

The first two days will take place before the summer 2016.

Two more meetings are scheduled in autumn.

Finally, a guided tour will be carried out at the reclamation sites, which will presumably take place in October 2016.

The innovative character of the LIFE RINASCE project depends not only on the types of intervention designed to solve environmental problems and to reduce hydraulic hazards, but also on a design approach based on ecological criteria leading to improved management of water and riparian vegetation of canals in relation to ecological, hydraulic and economic impacts.
The LIFE RINASCE project therefore offers a series of training events dedicated to the analysis, design, monitoring and integrated rehabilitation of drainage canals located in the territory managed by Consorzio di Bonifica dell'Emilia Centrale being part of the project itself..
This series of training sessions will take place over several days, aimed at deepening the techniques, methods, applicability, role and implications offered by the innovative solutions put forward by the LIFE RINASCE project in view of the future rehabilitation and management of the drainage canal network.

The four training meetings will focus on:

    • Analysis of the opportunities offered by the reclamation network for the application of the key concepts lid down by the 2000/60 / EC and 2007/60 / CE Directives (1st  day)
    • Planning of redevelopment and monitoring interventions (2nd  day)
    • Ecological and hydraulic design methods for drainage canals (3rd  day)
    • Drainage canal maintenance and management methods in the context of integrated environmental hydraulic regeneration (4th  day)

The first two days will take place before the summer 2016.
Two more meetings will be organized on dates to be established in autumn .
Finally, a guided tour will be carried out at the interventions sites, which will presumably take place in October 2016.

Objectives of the meetings

  • Analyze the opportunities offered by the hydraulic reclamation network for the enhancement of local ecological conditions and biodiversity conservation
  • Illustrate the techniques used for the integrated hydraulic reclamation of the drainage canals
  • Illustrate the methods and issues related to the environmental monitoring of the drainage canals
  • Evaluate the applicability of canal reclamation techniques to other spatial contexts
  • Evaluate the role played by the use of these techniques on regional policies and planning
  • Deepen the economic implications of reclamation techniques
  • Analyze management problems (drainage, irrigation and maintenance) in the regenerated canals

Issues to be addressed

Meetings are designed to address limits, difficulties and perspectives in monitoring the following elements:

  • environmental hydraulic regeneration of drainage canals
  • hydraulic monitoring
  • environmental monitoring
  • water quality
  • riparian vegetation
  • canal maintenance
  • constructed wetlands
