On the 10th December 2020, on the occasion of the Human Rights Day, Shaping Fair Cities announces the relaunch of the project international campaign to raise awareness about the 2030 Agenda, thanks to the extension of the project duration with additional six months, granted by EU Commission in order to complete all project activities, events and initiatives, which have been suspended or postponed because of the pandemic crisis, and its devastating consequences on a global level. Thanks to a pan-European multi-stakeholder partnership, the project will raise awareness and actively involve local decision makers, civil servants, grassroots organizations and citizens in localizing the SDGs in 7 European countries and 2 EU partner countries. In doing so, the action will promote the crucial role of local governments in the implementation of a new set of goals, paving the road to specific local 2030 Agenda plans.

Shaping Fair Cities international campaign started one year ago on a symbolical date, on the 25th September 2019 (Anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda by the United Nations) and will be relaunched on the 10th of December 2020 to honor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, one of the first major achievements of the United Nations. The 2030 Agenda’s global goals are all interlinked, and human rights issues become especially relevant in times of a global pandemic crisis. The implementation of the 2030 Agenda at local level is crucial to face the global devasting impact on human life at all levels, on people’s lives and rights, especially for what concerns the weaker sectors of societies, such as migrants and refugee, which are also at the center of the project activities and focus.

In sharing some of the most important project results, the international campaign will present key outputs which revealed themselves effective tools to face the difficulties due to the pandemic and allowed to re-schedule online activities and realize specific video contents and web tools, produced by all project partner institutions and their subgranted projects, in order to inform, educate and raise awareness among citizens and other targets on the 2030 Agenda Global Goals, always with a special focus on five SDGs (SDG 5, 11, 13, 16 and  17).

The first digital tool ready to be disseminated online is “The 2030 Agenda in our cities”: the web documentary, coordinated by lead partner Emilia Romagna Region, produced in collaboration with all partners, which will be launched on the 10th of December 2020 with the hashtags #inourcities, #2030Agenda, #strongertogether, #distantbutunited which will be added to the other project hashtags such as #inourhands #2030agenda, #globalgoals, etc.

The itinerant digital tool features Shaping Fair Cities international and multi-stakeholder partnership, paving the road to local 2030 Agenda plans and experimenting how to implement global goals at local level. 60 videos and around 300 photos were produced by the video-making troupe in 9 partner cities, and more will be featured in 2021. The choice to produce an itinerant web documentary is justified by the video powerful tools in it, to raise awareness and to encourage empathy around issues that are often perceived as distant. The way the web doc storytelling relates to reality allows different degrees of interactivity, like for example the possibility to choose the filters to navigate the contents, exploring partner cities and institutions, or researching specific SDGs related issues in different territories, or switching different galleries and materials (video, photos, infographics). The web documentary is also useful for training, capacity building and raising awareness purposes.

The campaign will also promote various actions and activities carried on by the different partners and the key outputs produced by them, starting from a set of three Digital tools besides the above mentioned web doc:

-       the Policy Learning Platform and its e-learning tool with original 8 video modules, coordinated by Romanian partner BRCT Iasi: a multifunctional instrument ensuring the exchange of practices. It is collecting all the learning materials and tools developed in all the languages withing the actions. The platform is a hub of informations and services for continuous learning. Any organization dealing with local development policies can find inspiration and solutions to improve the way they design and implement public policies in the four SDG areas –SDG 5, 11, 13 and 16. A new e-learning tool is in preparation and will contain video-presentations prepared by (BRCT IASI, UNIBO, Women network, Modena, Vejle, Reggio Emilia, WeWorld-GVC and RER. The function of the video-presentation is to give the target group the most relevant insights about the SDGs present in the project, as well as key concepts and useful information about localization;

-       the Digital Tool on SDGs and migration by the University of Bologna: an online instrument developed by the University of Bologna – Alma Mater Studiorum (Department of Social and Political Science – Forli Campus) in coordination with the Emilia Romagna Region. This website works as a dynamic platform that collects local and national resources, within and beyond Europe. Whereas the overall aim of the SFC project is to promote the local implementation of targeted SDGs (on climate change SDG 13, Fair and Sustainable Cities SDG 11, Fair Societies and Justice SDG 16, and gender equality SDG 5) together with adequate migration policies, the main goal of the Digital Tool is to give local migrant communities an overview of all the services and opportunities that the territory they live in offer to them, in terms of employment, education, linguistic courses, reception centres, linguistic and legal assistance, childcare and women empowerment, among others.
In doing so, the Digital Tool aims at leaving no-one behind at local level, while promoting resilient and peaceful societies.

All key outputs are produced with the involvement of partner regional institutions, municipalities, local authorities, civil servants, grassroot organizations, and citizens, in a participatory way and with the use of online communication tools, which help to work and stand together to face the difficult situation due to the pandemic.
