Shaping Fair Cities new E-Learning Tool on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

On the 22nd April 2021, UN International Mother Earth Day, Shaping Fair Cities presents the 2030 Agenda E-learning tool, an online course realized by project partners

On the occasion of the UN International Mother Earth Day, April 22, Shaping Fair Cities launches a new E-learning tool on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This date reminds us that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. A first step in that direction is to learn more about the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their implementation in our cities and communities.

The E-training tool is a new output of the Shaping Fair Cities project designed for public servants, policymakers and all interested citizens. It consists of 8 video lessons produced by project partners, analysing the key concepts of the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals, as well as specific focuses on the SDGs at the centre of our project: SDG 5 (gender equality), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 13 (climate change), 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) and 17 (partnership for the goals) at a local level. The lessons are enriched by quizes serving as a self-test instruments.

On the 22nd of april Shaping Fair Cities presents the first 3 modules of the E-learning Tool, which will be followed by other 5 modules (with release dates in May and June 2021).

The first module of the tool, “The 2030 Agenda vision and principles” – produced by the Romanian partner, Regional Office for Cross Border Cooperation for the Romania-Republic of Moldova - explains the basic concepts of sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda implementation on a local level, as well as the EU vision and actions in this field.

The University of Bologna drafted a Toolkit in English language, translated in all project partners national languages; this toolkit, presented in the second module of the e-learning course, seeks to provide an exhaustive description of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, while showing their interlinked nature.

Women Network - Women of Mediterranean East and South European Network - produced a video lecture on SDG 5 – Gender Equality and its connection with the other Sustainable Development Goals. This webinar aims to analyze the SDG 5 through three thematic areas: work, violence against women and public participation, related to specific good practices by Municipalities, aiming to achieve this goal.

Also the other E-learning Tool modules, which will be released in May and June, are produced by Shaping Fair Cities project partners.

The Webinar by the City of Modena focuses on the Sustainable Development Goal 11, illustrating the advantages of a sustainable city.  SDG 13 (Climate change) is addressed by the Municipality of Veile’s module, using the experiences gathered to illustrate local climate actions - building a climate plan, reducing emissions and greenhouse gases, planning a new urban approach, etc. - while actively involving citizens. The lesson by Municipality of Reggio Emilia analyses SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) on the international and national institutions as a means of promoting peace and social justice; examples of policies developed by Reggio Emilia Municipality are also provided.

The Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is addressed by two important contributions: WeWorld-GVC‘s module analyses the role of NGOs in implementing the SDGs at local and global level, while Emilia-Romagna Region capitalizes on decades of institutional experiences, showing how the 2030 Agenda Goals can be achieved through international cooperation.

The E-learning tool offers theoretical and practical information needed to understand how Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved. Public servants and policymakers can shape their visions to implement the 2030 Agenda in their regions, through a localization process that is of outmost importance for the next decade.

All Video Modules of the new Shaping Fair Cities E-Learning Tool will be available on our Youtube Channel.
