Granterre

Granaterre logoThe consortium, Consorzio Granterre - Modena. The Agricultural Cooperative Company, procures and sells cheeses, milk, creams, whey, forage and also markets packaged cheeses. It operates in the following local units: the legal and administrative headquarters in Modena, on Via Polonia, the local unit in Modena, hamlet of Albareto and the local unit of Montecavolo di Quattro Castella (Re). It was established in 1959, after having developed, over the course of 50 years, a significant system for aggregating the most important dairies in the territory. Today it is the world leader for the production, aging and marketing of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The group, through its corporate components, is the most important stakeholder of the Parmigiano Reggiano sector on the market.

The Granterre Consortium has 135 members including 56 co-operators. In 2011, approximately 130,000 rounds of Parmigiano Reggiano, 5,000 tons of milk for processing Parmigiano Reggiano, 2,500 tons of cream, 94,000 tons of whey, and 280 tons of forage were conferred to Granterre.

The Group’s mission statement is "satisfy customers with high quality and innovative products by endorsing the partners’ product". To achieve this, the Granterre Consortium has developed new initiatives with partners to strengthen their milk and cheese production and continues to be responsible for the conferment of cheese.

The Granterre Consortium participates as a partner for the sector of Parmigiano-Reggiano. The technical staff and member companies are directly involved in data collection and demonstrations. Granterre aggregates other cooperatives and companies involved in technical production (e.g. animal feed) and services (analysis and technical assistance) that make it possible to reach vast numbers of significant users and stakeholders, with an obvious advantage in terms of project objectives.
